Re-Activating Large-Scale Dormant Bases: A €157K Playbook

Converst held a database of 10,469 players across Europe who had all previously deposited but turned inactive.

More than 50% of the users had been dormant for over 12 months. The segment was being deprioritized under the usual assumption: the longer a player is gone, the less value they hold.

The Converst-R Strategy

Converst-R is Converst's proprietary methodology for Player Reactivation

Converst ran a human-led outreach Re-Activation campaign under the Converst-R methodology.  After scrubbing the database for duplicates, invalid numbers, non-existing accounts, and blacklisted players, 9,635 contactable leads isolated from the dormant database were retrieved.

The campaign rollout involved 43,147 call attempts using native-speaking agents, supported by additional outreach through SMS, WhatsApp, and email.

The recovery framework relied on a multi-stage process:

  • Database cleaning - ensuring that zero efforts were wasted on unaccountable profiles.
  • Player segmentation by market - locally tailored messaging, languages, and offers maximum relevance.
  • Multichannel communication – reaching out to players via calls, SMS, WhatsApp, and email working simultaneously rather than relying on a single channel.
  • A structured follow-up strategy - re-engaging players over multiple touchpoints instead of a single attempt, and reopening the CRM relationship rather than just recovering one deposit.

The result:

What looked like a dead database was actually a hidden commercial opportunity. Rather than relying on a one-off email blast, Converst built a scalable, multi-channel process that re-engaged lost players in their native language.

What that strategy delivered:

  • €157,114 in deposits recovered.
  • 543 players reactivated and deposited.
  • €289 average deposit per depositor.
  • The campaign delivered a 4.1x ROI.
  • On a 12-month trajectory, this scales to an estimated 12x ROI.

Conversion rate alone does not capture the full scope of this reactivation campaign. Nobody expects a 12-month cold database to convert like recent users. But 'inactive' doesn't mean worthless. Packed inside that list were past VIPs and key revenue drivers who simply stopped playing waiting for the right nudge.

The players didn’t lose their value, only their connection with the brand.

Beyond the First Deposit

The €157,114 upfront revenue was just the initial baseline.

Some contacted players logged back into their accounts but did not deposit before the campaign window closed. Those deposits are likely to come in after the campaign window closes.

That was not the most important thing in the situation. Reactivation reopens the relationship. Once a player logs in, they re-enter CRM journeys and VIP management. This is an open possibility to build a stable relationship with these clients.

The €157K is recovered revenue. The reopened relationships are where future player LTV sits.

Deposits close a campaign. Relationships keep paying long after it ends.

Final Takeaway

Acquisition asks: where do we find the next player?

Reactivation asks: how much value is still sitting in the players we already paid to acquire?

This campaign answers that question directly. Even with more than half the database inactive for over a year, it produced а 4.1x ROI.

And this is just one campaign. A typical client runs at least two per month. Now double everything above.

An inactivity metric tells you when a player left not what it takes to bring them back, or what they’re worth when you do.
